The following event schedule should give you a quick glance at the groups that have standard monthly events happening in the Atlanta area. I try to keep the main calendar updated with the actual event titles, but ultimately depend upon the groups themselves to update the main calendar. If you see a group you are interested in visiting, check out their sites for further information, and please feel free to update our calendar. The more people updating the Atlanta User Group calendar the more valuable this resource will be.

If you have a user group not included, or would like to update the information on this event schedule, please leave a comment and I will get it updated.

As someone who has a vested interest in email marketing, I find that the evolution of social media is playing a critical role in how email marketing is being used today and how it will be used in the future.

Take for example something as simple as an organization that has been publishing a bi-weekly, monthly or quarterly newsletter. When it comes time to begin compiling relevant (keyword relevant) content for your newsletter, there are times where you feel hard pressed to find enough quality (and again relevant) content that truly engages your audience. Your audience needs to be engaged and interacting with your emails if you're going to build a lasting relationship with them and try to keep there attention for an elongated period of time or nurture them through the buying cycle. So, if you're finding yourself hard pressed to come up with quality content on a regular basis, perhaps you're sending your newsletters too frequently and should consider sending once a month or once a quarter; or perhaps you're in need of more ways to get your audience engaged in a relevant manner. Bam! The beauty of social networks.

By injecting the use of social media into your integrated marketing plan, not only are able to begin taking advantage of the ability to expand brand awareness and promotions, grow your email database, observe brand perception and the dozens of other benefits social media offers, but you're also able to take user generated content from your social media and plug it directly into your newsletters to create a more engaging and valuable experience for your audience. Now, imagine the possibilities. Top photo of video submissions, product reviews and feedback, complimentary products or services, top blog posts, polls, recurring customer questions or issues.... and the list goes on and on and on...
I'd love to hear from anyone who has used Jive. I'm obviously a fan of Ning, as this network is built upon that platform, but I think hosting the database yourself and having some of the customization tools available in Jive would add even extra features to a social network. It would certainly help you identify SMEs.

Here is an article wrote after attending the Jive roadshow last fall, about what corporations need to start thinking about building their own social entities.

A brief look at these statistics and trends in health care on the social web should help organizations understand the impact of engaging with social media tools to help in spreading their message. It does not matter if you are a pharma company trying to connect with patients, or if you are a medical education provider looking for ways to utilize social bookmarking.

Social media may have its roots in the trendy tweener population but is growing trees of marketing data that the health care industry can utilize to improve their message delivery and improve the healthcare information being consumed online in the social media landscape.
