Last night at the Atlanta Drupal User Group they added in a feature to their meeting that I have yet to see at other user groups.

At the very beginning they asked everyone to say their name, what they did, how they learned about the group and how long they had been working with Drupal.

As a newbie to the group I found that 3-4 minutes to be extraordinarily valuable in getting a feel for the room and the group as a whole.

I'm sure that format is prohibitive to larger groups, but less than 30 people should take less than 5 minutes.

What other meeting features and formats have you seen groups use that you liked or did not like?

At the Atlanta ColdFusion User Group we tend to follow this format.

- Nametag distribution, socialization, pizza and drinks

- Meeting Start. Welcome and introduction to the group by MC (usually president)
-- Thank our sponsors, if they are there give them a chance to say a little something
-- Talk about upcoming events for the local group (future lunches, meetings, special events)
-- Talk about upcoming conferences around the world in CF or similar technologies
-- Ask if anyone is looking to hire
-- Ask if anyone is looking for a job
-- Introduce the first speaker

- Talk 1
- Break 5-10 minutes
- Talk 2

- Thanks to sponsors, venue, board members and anyone else that made the meeting possible
- Prizes

Our talk formats very depending upon our topics, but thats our basic layout. For smaller numbers I think I will be including the Drupal idea of letting the room introduce themselves in the future though.
